Opinion Club: This film was ... Very nice. Craft, antique, with moments of ineffable nonsense that only the Eastern cinema has got so far and above all a great great great foam.
The plot is fairly linear. The future Inframen agrees to become the hero capable of saving the world after thinking about it very well, for a total of about eight seconds. A questo punto la trama è abbastanza lineare, con i mostri che vengono via via mandati contro Inframan e sconfitti da quest'ultimo fino allo scontro finale sull'isola della principessa, caratterizzato da esplosioni insensate in media ogni dieci secondi (e non scherzo quando dico insensate, a volte i mostri-scheletro deflagrano per essere stati lanciati in acqua) e dal fatto che durante la visione il CapitAno ha avuto una visione di Angela Lansbury, riflessa nel ghiaccio. I mostri, va detto, sono notevolmente marci, realizzati in cartapesta e gommapiuma, always waving as if they were under the influence of drugs, and evil tentacles.
If one has the culture of bad this movie is nothing short of a must. Quella scena di quando sono in barca, poi, era esaltante.
A dire la verità non saprei dire quante delle assurdità che abbiamo visto sul fronte degli effetti speciali siano dovute a un'eventuale carenza di fondi e quante ai limiti tecnologici che uno poteva incontrare nella Hong Kong dell'epoca (si parla del 1975). In particolare, questo è considerato il primo film "di supereroi" cinese, derivato da più noti cugini nipponici tipo "Ultraman". Vero è che anche i comparti dove i limiti tecnoligici non si applicano (tipo la scenggiatura) non si brilla particolarmente. In particolare i personaggi sono piuttosto "monodimensionali", ma d'altra parte la concezione dell'eroe tormentato è una cosa più squistamente moderna.
Spero di aver reso giustizia a questa pellicola, che qualitativamente ha un valore pressoché nullo, ma che dal punto di vista del marciume è semplicemente un capolavoro - guardandolo si passa un'ottima ora e venti di riso tra il divertito e l'isterico. Consigliato a grandi e piccini.
