Nobel Liu Xiabao: The Committee shall publish the reasons
dissident awarded "for his long and violent battle for fundamental human rights in China"
PeaceReporter - Here is the full text published online the reasons stated by the Norwegian Nobel Committee awarded its Peace Prize to Chinese dissident Liu Xiaobo:
"The Norwegian Nobel Committee has decided to award the Nobel Peace Prize 2010 to Liu Xiaobo for his long and violent battle for fundamental human rights in China. The Norwegian Nobel Committee has long considered that there is a close link between human rights and pace. L'articolo 35 della Costituzione cinese sancisce che 'i cittadini della Repubblica popolare cinese godono della libertà of speech, press, assembly, association, of procession and of demonstration. In practice it is shown that these freedoms are clearly limited for Chinese citizens. For over two decades, Liu Xiaobo is a strong spokesman for the battle for the application of fundamental human rights in China. He took part in protests in Tiananmen Square in 1989, was one of the authors Carta08 promoters, the poster of such rights in China that was published in 60 / anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, December 10, 2008. The following year, Liu was sentenced to eleven years in prison and two years deprivation of political rights for 'inciting subversion against the state.
